Owning a boat was just part of the story and I don't even know why you brought that up, unless it was something that offended you, likle maybe the "yuppie fuck" remark. Which you might relateto.

Waste of time Dave. Who konws, maybe his boat sunk and he is still pissed. ??? But let me wander off for a second here. Seems a lot of you didn't get the drift I was tryin to plant here. I finally read it just above Daves post here. My main point was to ride to your experiances, not with the crowd. ESPECIALLY if you do not have that experiance!! In a crowd is no time to learn!! Now you may ask why I used the term "YUPIE FUCKS" Well, that is just typical behavior for their demographic. Call it profiling, singling them out, being a racist, I can give a shit what you call it, the facts speak for themselves and I am not going to suger coat shit for no one just to save some feelings. I have personally pulled a probies patch and seen many others pulled for lack of skills in a group formation. If you cant ride 65 MPH, 3-5 feet behind the rear tire ahead of you, stay within an 18" path, you have no business in tight formation riding. You need to master skills BY YOURSELF, then get a trusted buddy, hit the WIDE back roade till such time you have those skills!! And for those wondering, the bike involved in this crash still had the tempory tags on it and they were only doing 40 MPH!!! Speed was in no way a factor. Lack of skills and equipment were. I also cant speculate on the alcohol factor. There were a couple of vehicles between the bikes and me but I never saw any weaving. So I cant even speculate.

thought i'd share this on here Wayne...
THE LAST BIKER!
The Last Biker...The old ones stand out now, their numbers dwindling down. They're sad loss to the American scene, these individualists with the worn down clothes, saddles and faces. You can still see them sometimes, the real ones, some in packs, not as large as a while ago, sometimes alone.
The alone one is the best. One who's been there a long time, staying in the life he loves, never giving into a system that sucks you up like a vortex if you slip just one foot into it. He's got his connections - a few like him, that care for and protect each other. Hanging onto the only unique lifestyle left, like old dinosaurs, their faces are leathered and rough by forty, but their eyes still sharp and knowing.
Some are gray in the beards and braids, some are limp in their step and some pain in the kidneys. Still they know that no other life is life, but merely a dreary journey into everyone else's monotony. He looks at the new ones, and then turns away, knowing they will never know of life on the road and of the women who can take it. Wild, loving women who'll hang in with them, because they love it too. Women with wild hearts and loyal souls, that's what's needed here.
The new ones are shiny and young and a bit too clean. They're born into a system that has an iron grip now. The new one's don't seem to know and couldn't take "the life".
I think it's a mystery, even to the old ones, why this life is theirs, but it is, and it's the only one.
When the last biker falls, like the dinosaurs, the sun will go down on a breed of heart-of-gold, tough as nails, free of spirited men, who even at their worst, love what's theirs and protect it. In a worldwide system that is making all people as alike as manufactured dolls, the earth will be a duller place...when the last biker falls.

Well said Wayne!! I don't care what ya call it! I think that's the only way to learn and that's after taking the safety course too. Many people don't think they need any of that but those accidents hurt us all that ride...another statistic against the masses which only go to create more laws to 'protect' us since 'we' wont protect ourselves and learn right. Many say I ride too fast and that I ride like a guy but that's because i learned from the guys I've rolled with for years. BUT I never think I have the skill level of those guys or anyone else...I am still a newbie out there compared to them. I say it before every ride...ride your own ride. (which is ride your experience level, no one elses) I made Tara (and others) ride the back roads and twisties til she was blue but she still hasn't ridden in a group larger than a few of us. I just believe my pride is not worth more than me or my bike so I don't give a shit what people say...skill comes from experience and I want to keep having ecperiences, and I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself. Anyway thanks for the post....its a wake up call for all.

Well HDW2 this is where I agree with ya, “ride to your experience” . a fine example is my oldest son, never been on a street bike (he’s 34) so I let him ride my Road King to get the feel of it, he went up and down the street a few times and fell in love, said he is going to get him self one, told him to take a riding class first. He calls me up and says “hey dad I bought a bike and I’ll be over”’, well I’m thinking he got a small bike to start with and move up as time goes buy. After about an half hour I hear the sound of sport bike pull up, I went out side and there he was with his brand new bike, I walked up and gave him a big hug saying “son that’s one nice bike” tell I saw the size, that dum fuck kid of mine bought a CBR1000R for his first bike, I came unglued, a bike that does a 100mph in first for a first time rider I couldn’t believe it. What could I say to him, he’s a grown man so we go out together just so I can help show him the doo’s and don’ts. After a year of riding I think I have him convinced to get rid of it and get back in to dirt bikes,

UPDATE:
The latest death toll is already up to 4. The latest just 4 miles from my house. It seems this numnut slid under a barbed wire fence and decapated himself. Go figure!
Grusome as it may be, I am thinking about starting a pool on this years death count. 1996 was the worst with 18 deaths. So any takers??? Hey, why not make sport of it. Those involved arent going to complain right? And iffin they do, something is REALLY WRONG!!
So ok, I got 4 dice and rolled them. I got a total of 10 so 10 is my number.

Well I gotta agree with ya that new riders need to take it very slow and off the highways. Sticking to the side roads like I did when I first learned to ride many years ago, is a wise decision.
Luckily I had really good teachers and brothers that rode Harleys when I was just 19 years old. They taught me the do's and dont's that really stick with ya.
Back when I rode all around the bay area and a cross the country on my shovel wide glide, my brothers that taught me to ride had been riding for many years. They made me ride the back roads for weeks of practicing turns and saftey precautions ..in fact a couple of months before I got out onto the freeways.
Oh and yeah its been 20 years since I rode (untill a couple a weekends ago when TnT let me ride her sportster)..and while yes I passed my written mc test..I still plan to take the riders education course just to refresh my mind on the safety end of it. Even though I felt quite comfortable riding and I feel I have the skills necessary to ride safely ..I would just feel better being 100% sure and safe for myself and everyone who rides with me.
Will I EVER ride my OWN bike again? Dunno..hopefully! A huge dream of mine..but if not..then it wasnt meant to be I guess. But some how, I see it in my near future

I see another rider I wave. Most of the time they wave back. Beyond that, I don't give a rats ass if they 'gots' or 'don't gots,'/yuppie mentality or not. I'm out there for ME to enjoy . . . not anybody else.
As far as tellin' inexperienced riders to stay home: Everybody was, at one time, inexperienced. Some are now experienced; some are now dead because of their inexperience. Seems to me to be the nature of the beast. But just how the hell is someone going to get experience if he/she isn't getting out there? It's sort of like telling a person he can't ever get in the water until he knows how to swim.

i agree with texas pete ive only been riding since jan. 2nd this year but i do take my time to get to know the bike and use what most people in this world dont have any more "COMMON SENSE" and not a COCKY fucking attitude

All Motorcycles are far more dangerous than Big Rigs requiring years of OTR experiences and that is the part of newly joined bikers don't understand.

Just cause your in some club don't make you a good rider! Oh yall look all cool cause you dress alike and try to ride so close! I havent been in a club since I was 8 years old. I never like to ride near any of yall "club" riders cause the guy in front seems to be the only guy looking where the hell he's going and every one behind is blindly following. I have been pushed out of my lane before because some one up front wanted to change lanes and the rest just mooved over without looking! IDK? ride together die together? Not me man! and yep EVERY ONE was a beginner once, I just wish you had to qualify to ride and buy bikes! Kids n crotch rockets or older dudes and ultra classics! get training and tested!
